Allow me to demystify hypnosis as well as provide you with clarity.
What is hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique where a trained hypnotherapist induces a state of focused attention and relaxation in a client to help them access their subconscious mind. This state can be used to explore and address a variety of issues such as anxiety, phobias, self sabotaging tendencies, and more.
Is hypnosis the same as being asleep? No, hypnosis is not the same as being asleep. While clients may appear relaxed or have closed eyes during hypnosis, they are actually in a state of heightened awareness and focus. They can hear and respond to the therapist's suggestions. Hypnosis is only a natural state and you have actually been hypnotized many times before like when you're watching a movie, listening to music or zoning out while driving or walking.
Can anyone be hypnotized? Most people can be hypnotized to some degree if they are willing and open to the process. A person's ability to be hypnotized can vary depending on factors like their willingness to participate, comfort with the therapist, and ability to focus. I do not accept clients who seem to have resistance and uncertainty about this type of therapy as I believe it will not be effective for those types of individuals. An open mind brings you to states of expansion.
Is hypnotherapy effective? Yes, hypnotherapy can be effective for a wide range of issues. Research supports its effectiveness in areas such as pain management, anxiety reduction, habit control, and improving performance. However, hypnotherapy is being used for a myriad of reasons for personal and spiritual development now and remain successful.
Will I lose control during hypnosis? No, you will not lose control during hypnosis. While you may feel deeply relaxed and open to suggestion, you are always in control of your actions. Hypnosis cannot make you do anything against your will or values. Your moral compass remains completely in tact. The reason some entertainment hypnosis participants do such silly things is because they are open to being silly in public. Some who aren't open to being silly are usually disqualifies because they aren't suggestible.
What does hypnosis feel like?Hypnosis feels different for everyone. Some describe it as a deeply relaxed and focused state, similar to daydreaming or being absorbed in a book. You may feel calm, comfortable, and more aware of your thoughts and sensations. Like an elevated state of being. Otherworldly.
Is hypnotherapy safe? When conducted by a trained and qualified hypnotherapist, hypnotherapy is considered safe. It is a non-invasive and drug-free approach that respects the client's autonomy and well-being. It is important to choose a certified therapist who adheres to ethical standards and practices. For example, I am board certified by the international board of coaches and practitioners where I adhere to a code of ethics and keep up with courses to refine and enhance my practice.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis? No, you cannot get stuck in hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state that you can emerge from at any time if you choose to do so. The therapist will guide you back to a fully alert state before the session ends.
How long is a session? A session is about 90 minutes long.
What does a typical session look like? For a new client, a session consists of us getting to build trust and rapport. We then begin to discuss goals and intentions. I request that you share a bit of your story to get an idea of what it is that you need from the session. Once the goals and intentions are clearly defined, we will work on some exercises and explore questions to begin to get into the space for change. We then move on to the hypnotherapy portion where I will induce you into a hypnotic theta state. Once you are hypnotized, the therapy portion begins. While being under hypnosis you will rarely be asked to converse with me. It will be a listening portion. After I gently take you out of hypnosis we will take some time to be able to discuss your experience and insights. Often times for long-term clients, I will provide you with a task or "homework" to further strengthen certain neural pathways.
For clients that have worked with me before, we will first complete a check in & focus on integrating the work we did the previous session before moving into the goal setting, exercises and hypnotherapy portion.
